Your Glassblowing Questions Answered

Studio & Access

Where are you located?

We’re located in the River Arts District of San Antonio — just south of downtown — with easy parking right out front.

St. Marys street runs through town and turns into Roosevelt. Then a few more blocks and we're just past the HWY 90 overpass.

Is the studio accessible?

Yes, our gallery and hotshop are wheelchair-accessible and during your experience we make adjustments as needed to provide a hands-on & engaging experience..

Am I healthy enough to blow glass?

While we cannot determine whether or not it is safe for you to blow glass we can share about the evnironment & experience.

The hotshop can get quite hot, especially in the summers. You'll need to be in this space for 10-15 minutes during your experience. This time is mostly standing but we have seats nearby and can accomodate mobility aids.

The blowing experiences (ornaments, eggs, & pumpkins) don't require large volumes of air, just consistent pressure, much like blowing up a balloon.

The flowers experience requires good manual dexterity to pull on the hot glass into a flower shape.

Extras & Gift Options

Do you offer gift cards?

Yes! Digital gift vouchers are available for purchase online. They can be used toward any experience. Find the right one here.

Can I buy art without taking a class?

Of course. Our gallery is open weekly and filled with original artwork and gifts created right here in the studio.

Private Events & Group Options

Can you host corporate or team-building events?

Absolutely. We love hosting team-building and creative retreats. Our private events can be tailored to your group size, timing, and goals.

Generally we can host 6 to 10 participants per hour and recommend a max of 3 hours.

Do you travel for events?

Because our furnaces and tools are large, all experiences take place at Caliente Hot Glass. However, we do offer offsite speaking engagements by special arrangement.

We also have a relationship with a mobile glassblower who can come to you. His rates start at $10,000 and typically includes a multi-day schedule.

About the Studio

Why Glass

Each experience in glass is personal. We love sharing this medium because it’s alive, responsive, and constantly surprising — just like the people who work with it.

Before you Arrive

What should I wear to a glassblowing class?

Closed-toe shoes are preferred. We recommend comfortable, breathable clothing made from natural fibers (like cotton) — avoid synthetics if possible. You’ll also want to tie back long hair.

It's going to be warm. Pants are NOT required. Shorts & t-shirts is often our attire year-round

Is it hot in the studio?

It’s warm, but we keep air circulation running and limit time near the furnace. Most people are surprised how comfortable it is once they get started.

Can I make a specific item or color?

Each experience is designed around certain forms (hearts, globes, pumpkins, etc.). You’ll choose from an existing color collection curated for that specific item. If you’re interested in something custom, private events are the way to go!

Can I be in the hotshop if I’m not participating?'

Only paying participants and their guests are allowed into the hotshop.

Children and minors are not allowed in the hotshop during our public glassblowing experiences.

I’m on the waitlist — what happens next?

Our waitlist indicates that your desired time is already fully booked out. If a spot opens up due to a reschedule or cancellation, you’ll be notified right away by email so you can claim it.

During Your Experience

How does the experience work?

For most experiences, each participant works one-on-one with our professional glassblowers.

For private events with a group size larger than 12, we can shift to a “workshop” format where the next participant begins halfway through the previous one’s turn. That way, everyone gets quality time in the hotshop while keeping the event running smoothly.

How many people can you host?

Public experiences typically accommodate 5–8 participants per session.

Private events start can accommodate up to 30 participants.

Can we bring food or drinks?

Absolutely! We also have a range of snacks and beverages available by donation.

For private events we're happy to coordinate catering for you.

After Your Experience

Do you ship?

Of course! At the end of your experience, let us know your address and we'll take care of the rest.

In 2026 shipping for our intro pieces is $16 per address.

What if my piece breaks during shipping?

We take great care in annealing (cooling) and packing each piece, but glass is fragile! If your item arrives damaged, contact us within 48 hours and we’ll work with you to make it right.

How should I care for my glass art?

Avoid exposing it to sudden temperature changes. Clean gently with mild soap and water, and never use abrasives.

How long do I have to pick up my piece?

Your piece wants to go home with you! We’ll hold it for up to 3 months. After that, we may release unclaimed pieces to find a new home.

We can always ship it anytime within that 3 month window.
